Amelia Black discusses her WIP (a romance novel) and gives everyone a first (preliminary) look at its main characters.
A week or two ago I was caught in a conundrum as to what I could do that would both get my writing out there for you my readers to feast off of and bring in some income. I looked around at those I interact with almost daily on Facebook and Twitter. I analyzed, not deeply but enough to get a general idea, the works my fellow authors were offering. What I found was that they, unlike me, were offering their readers a novel. A book.
Now, I’m writing short stories which, after five volumes, can be put together to make a book around 50,000 words long. My Wentworth College Legends quickies are written in series format. Over time those compilations of 8,000-9,000 words can be combined into larger compilations. Same with the new quickies I’m introducing here on this website, like Intimacy of Power.
But they’re not novels. They aren’t done the same way, they aren’t written and then BOOM! it’s out there.
So I decided to tackle writing a novel. First up is a romance. I know, I know, I write erotica. This won’t be that. I don’t want it to be. I’m trying something new. So far, I’m liking it.
Don’t worry, I have every intention of putting out an Erotic Romance Novel sometime in the future, too. There are also a few other ideas in the works but tonight the focus is on the novel I’m currently writing.
Tonight I finished writing Chapter 3 and the novel is already just under 19,000 words long. I’d planned to shoot for 80,000 but I have a feeling it’ll be much longer whether I want it to be or not.
The main issue is making sure I put in the time on the Novel. Mostly because I still have this website and I still plan to offer you, my readers, free erotica. I also plan to continue putting out my short stories, though I’m considering dropping them to one a month rather than two a month. We’ll just have to see. I’m going to try and stick to the publication schedule that I’ve outlined for myself through the end of the year. Luckily I’ve plotted almost everything, save any novels, so that’ll help.
Here are the two main characters of the Novel – so far named Lexi and Connor. Nothing is set in stone as of yet but you’re getting a glimpse of what’s in my head at least:
I don’t know who those people are in the pictures but they’re close enough to what I imagine the two main characters to look like. For now. Do they intrigue you?
I’ve considered using Pinterest to help my readers learn more about the characters – what they like and all that – but I’m not sure I have the time to do that. At least not yet. I’ve got so much on my plate and then there’s the making money part which just isn’t happening yet. What do you think? Should I include Pinterest when it comes to this novel? Would that interest you or is it a hit or miss kind of thing?
Lastly, if you like my stories please consider making a pledge on Patreon. The lowest amount is $1.00. Not $1.00 a story, not $1.00 a week. No, it’s $1.00 a month! Bump it to $2.50 and you could win a story. Seriously, go check it out here: https://www.patreon.com/BeyondVirtue. If you find you can’t spare a dollar or three a month then I ask that you please at least share my Patreon page with your friends. Let them know where they can get free erotica and how they can help keep that free erotica coming while enabling me to write my novels.
There are rewards for pledging. Check it out and you might find that becoming a patron is worth it.
Thank you for your support, whatever form it might take.
